I've been making the rounds to many of the local fitness centers. Last Tuesday, Ladies Choice Fitness Center (MB location) asked me to teach a Hooping class Saturday afternoon. It was only supposed to be thirty minutes but turned into an hour and fifteen minutes. We rocked out to some great tunes and it was a wonderful experience to share my passion with others who understand what it's all about. I might become a full time instructor. Who knows .... I could open my own Hooping facility. That would be awesome!

I don't know if you will be as surprised to hear a 'younger' person sing this song as I was. It was very popular when I was in a teenager. To know it has survived and been revived is amazing to me. I suppose some things will always remain as part of pop culture...no matter what year it happens to be. The original was recorded by Sam The Sham and The Pharaohs. This new artist simply calls herself 'The Brook'. I hope it brings back as many memories for you as it does for me. Enjoy :)

At the age of 47, Barack Hussein Obama has become the 44th President of the United States. He took the oath of office on the steps of the U.S. Capitol before a crowd of more than one million people who had gathered in frigid temperatures to see the first African American become president. It is, indeed, a great day for all Americans. A chance for new beginnings...change....and restored faith in our government.

Below is the video of Barack Obama taking the oath of office. Was he just overcome with the magnitude of the crowd or did his mind just wander to other things? Clearly, something caused him to not concentrate on what he was to 'repeat' after The Honorable John G. Roberts, Jr. who administered the Presidential Oath of Office. It's kind of funny really. Shows he's human ... just like the rest of us.

Update:

For a couple of smooth-talking constitutional experts, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and President Barack Obama had a difficult time getting through the constitutional oath of office.

There was a false start by Mr. Obama, who started to respond before Chief Justice Roberts had completed the first phrase. Mr. Obama ended up saying the first two words — “I, Barack” — twice.

Then there was an extremely awkward pause after Chief Justice Roberts prompted Mr. Obama with these words: “That I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully.” The chief justice seemed to say “to” rather than “of,” but that was not the main problem. The main problem was that the word “faithfully” had floated upstream in the constitutional text, which actually says this: “That I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States.”

Mr. Obama seemed to realize this, pausing quizzically after saying, “that I will execute.”

Chief Justice Roberts gave it another try, getting closer but still not quite right with this: “Faithfully the office of president of the United States.” He omitted the word “execute.”

Mr. Obama now repeated the chief justice’s error of putting “faithfully” at the end and said, “The office of president of the United States faithfully.”

From there, smooth sailing.

It is academic to argue about what the failure to utter the words in the precise order required by the Constitution means. Could it be argued that Mr. Obama had not become president as a consequence? I think not.

There is, in any event, no rule against a do-over. When questions were raised about whether Calvin Coolidge, in 1923 after Warren G. Harding died, should have been sworn in by his father, a notary public, he took the oath again from a federal judge.

Rosie Talks....About Not Blogging, Ann Coulter and Drinking

Rosie O'Donnell visited Sirius satellite radio show, 'Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer' and made quite a stir.... addressing her embarrassments of 2008. The comedian bluntly talked about why she's no longer blogging, how her variety show reviews almost turned her into an alcoholic and why Ann Coulter has passionate, "deep-seeded" rage.

Excepts from Rosie's Radio Interview
(In Her Own Words)

Why she quit blogging: "I started the blog four years ago... See, I was a kid from Long Island, who said I was going to be rich and retire at 40. Now I'm 40. So I started to do a blog. It was a wonderful way for me to have an outlet to express myself. It got bigger and bigger to the point where whatever I would say or do would end up as one of the soundbites on one of the entertainment shows in the evening. It became more of a drain than an inspiration."

What she misses about having a blog: "Fame robs you of being able to talk to people one on one like at the mall. The blog gave me that outlet. There are people I've been e-mailing for four years and become friendly with. That part I miss - the people. But I don't miss the public part of it. It got a little bit draining."

Why she decided to quit drinking alcohol: "My little daughter, Vivi, came to me on her birthday and said, 'I wish that you would not drink beer.' And I was like, 'Oh my god!'... I stopped drinking beer. I'm off the beer. I haven't [had beer] for about a month and a half... Anyway, beer gets to be so fattening when you get older."

How her drinking has fluctuated throughout her life: "I didn't drink one time in my 20s for about nine years. From 20 to 29, I didn't drink at all. I was dating a woman at the time who was a shrink, and she told me, 'I think you have a drinking problem.' I went to an [Alcoholics Anonymous] meeting and heard all these people's stories about leaving their kids in the car... so I quit."

About her bad variety show reviews: "I wanted to hit the sauce after I read the reviews. What was disconcerting was in the room, it was great. Everyone, even reporter Liz Smith was like, 'What are you going to do?' Smith thought it was fantastic. Everyone at the party said it was genius. Then, I got home and turned on the blog. My blog people - the devoted ones - didn't like it. It was 'too dark.' I was like, 'Oh my. Half the people didn't like it.' Then I knew. Until that point, I had no idea. I was like, 'I could totally hit up a six-pack of Sam Adams right now.'"

Rosie's thoughts about Ann Coulter: "She's angry if you ask me. She's full of rage. When you see someone like that, you have to go back to what happened in their childhood ... You don't know what went on in their household. Sometimes, people with very controversial views, there is some part of their humanity that you can relate to. Even though they think differently than you do, you can still reach them as a human being, but she's not one of them for me."

On whether Coulter really has extremist views: "Yeah, I really do. I don't think it is a show. The passion from which she spews it... It's deep-seeded. It's bizarre."

So, there you have it. There will be no more blogging. I could 'almost' see it coming when she quit blogging for the entire month of August 2008. However, she would occasionally slip in a new header image or a few lines of 'her wisdom'... just enough to keep her fans coming back to check on her blog. And, we did....daily. She acknowledges, in the above interview, that her fans are Devoted to her. Never has anyone captured such a diverse following as Rosie O'Donnell.

We will miss you and your blog, Rosie....especially your 'talkie' blogs. For a few minutes each day, we could connect with you. I really hate that the media has contributed to taking that away from us/her. She's right though....no matter what she talked or wrote about on her blog, you could damn sure count on hearing about it on one of the entertainment shows.

Enjoy your family, Rosie. You will be missed...and I think you know that!

Disabled Man Sues Businesses for a Living

The man....Tom Mundy. What he does for a living is a disgrace to humanity and to all disabled people. After watching the video, I was outraged. This is extortion..plain and simple.

Mundy, who lives in California, documents and photographs every time a restaurant or business in the state doesn't have wheelchair-friendly tables, bathrooms or other features required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. His lawyer them files the papers to sue the businesses. Usually, the businesses pay Mundy a settlement of a few thousand dollars to avoid trial.

Okay, so he's in a wheelchair (for whatever reason) and has been for 20 years. He has been 'technically' unemployed for the past two years. He goes around from business to business to LOOK FOR a reason to sue and is reported to be bringing in a comfortable six figure income by legal extortion. There is one example in the video where he says he can't reach the seat covers for the toilet. I have serious doubts as to whether he would actually USE to seat covers to protect his ass from touching the toilet seat.

He tells the people who want to criticize him for what he's doing..."All you have to do is go out with me in my other wheel chair and I can show you how hard it is to get around." Hey Tom...you have two wheel chairs? A spare? Wow! There are people who need a wheel chair but can't afford one.

I can understand giving a business a warning and a chance to correct the situation. I do NOT agree with what this 'advocate for the disabled' is doing. Most people would like to say to him....Keep Your Ass At Home.

She was in Detroit looking for a teenage boy to play the film’s lead role....and found him at Small Plates, a restaurant where he was having lunch with his family. That kid was certainly in the right place at the right time! Can you imagine being approached by Rosie O'Donnell and having her ask you to play the lead role in a movie? The Lifetime Original movie will air in February 2009.

Around the world, from Kenya to California, people celebrated as Barack Obama was named as the 44th President of the United States. The crowds of people, anxiosly awaiting the outcome, could only be compared in number...to the crowds who gathered to usher in the new millineum.

During the presidential campaign, with unprecedented news coverage, Barack Obama captured world wide attention. Last night he secured victory with nearly 63 million votes....the largest total in history.

It is estimated that more than 64 percent of eligible American voters cast ballots, the best showing in at least 40 years....and in one estimate, since 1908.

This is truly an historic event. A victory in the nation's long civil rights struggle. Barriers have been broken. Dreams do come true. Obama's life story is a testiment to the fulfillment of the American dream.

To the thousands of people who gathered at Chicago's Grant Park, the President-Elect stated...
“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

• Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

• Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million

• Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama:13.2 McCain: 2.

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly

the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Fast forward 6 years: Rosie is in Detroit Michigan making a movie. Shooting started yesterday.

Rosie O'Donnell will star in and executive produce America, Lifetime's look at a 15-year-old boy's struggles within the foster-care system.

America reunites O'Donnell with producer Larry Sanitsky and scribe Joyce Eliason, with whom she worked on CBS' 2005 'Riding on the Bus With My Sister'.

Yvez Simoneau (HBO's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) will direct the telepic, which hails from Sony Pictures Television.

If this doesn't scare the hell out of you there is something terribly wrong. Just watch the interview with Katie Couric and listen to Sarah Palin's answers. I've never seen such a display of ignorance by a vice presidential candidate. She may be trying to appeal to the average American with her folksy attitude, winning smile, and down home humor. I don't buy it for one second. IF they win the election, this woman would take over the office of President of the United States should something happen to McCain. That's a very scary thought for me. God help us all if that happens. Do your own research on Palin. You'll be surprised at what all you will find. A good place to start is here. Of course, there's always the Alaska News, chock full of articles about Sarah Palin. Time is running out. The election is less than a month away. I urge everyone to read all that you can in order to make an informed decision.

Is it me...or is Elizabeth Hasselbeck as dumb as she comes across?
I don't understand why Barbara Walters keeps her on The View. I supposed it's because The View Master (Bill Geddie) has taken a liking to her from the beginning.

There have been rumors that Elizabeth is leaving The View for Fox News. However, a rep for Hasselbeck stated that there is absolutely no truth to the rumors. Furthermore, it is stated that Hasselbeck is passionate in her beliefs and enjoys being a part of this dynamic group of women and engaging in daily conversations.
Apparently Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie (executive producers of The View) think the arguments Elizabeth stirs up is a good thing and even consider Elizabeth "vital to the program".

Personally, I can't stand to listen to her irritating voice. Not to mention her ridiculous political views. Thank goodness Whoopi has the nerve to stand up to her and not be intimidated by her. I suspect there could be a cat fight between Elizabeth ans Sherry though. Sherry got hot under the collar today. It won't take much more to push her over the edge and let Elizabeth have it. And.........she's certainly got it coming to her!!

Rosie O'Donnell to Host Variety Show on NBC

Rosie O'Donnell has been quite mysterious the past couple of months. First, she announced at the end of July, that she would be taking the month of August off from blogging. Her reason was: "to see if I can"....and "to find the balance". Seems she felt she was becoming addicting to blogging and...the computer, in general.

As promised, she returned to her blog on Sept 1, 2008. Although, she DID post several little articles during August...just not any ASK RO comments. Her fans were disappointed but soon realized that even Rosie needs some time to herself and respected her decision.

Her blogging has been sporadic since her return...only updating a couple of times a week. Some of the ASK RO questions asked if the rumors were true about her return to television. She didn't give away any information other than to say..."i heard that rumor." Then, there was this one that I had my suspicions about:

Seems to be a rather cryptic message there. As posted on the blog today, Rosie is indeed returning to television next month when she hosts her own variety show, appropriately titled Rosie's Variety Hour.

Rosie's NBC special – airing Nov. 26, the night before Thanksgiving – will consist of celebrity guests, comic turns, musical acts and a prize giveaway for both the show's in-studio and at-home audiences.

Here's the real kick in the ass. It was also stated (on the internet...not her blog!), if the hour-long show catches enough viewers' eyes, it could become a recurring event next year. Are you kidding me? With the numbers she pulled in while on The View....this Variety show will be a huge success. Go Rosie!!

Loneliness

Have you ever felt completely alone? Have you ever felt that you didn't want to be HERE. Not caring WHERE you go....just not be HERE...not living MY life.
In light of all that's happened in the past couple of months, I sometimes feel this way.
Losing three loved ones in that short period of time will do a real number on a person. Especially when one was a suicide. So many unanswered questions. There will never be answers. No one really knows just how much other people are going through.
No, I haven't blogged in quite some time. I'm hoping to get back whatever it was that made me start blogging in the first place.

Rosie on Rachael Ray Show

Rosie O'Donnell and her Broadway Kids (RBK) appeared on the Rachael Ray show yesterday. It was Rachael's 40th birthday celebration and they surprised her with a special birthday song. Rosie had previously mentioned, on her blog, that she would be appearing on the show. However, everyone thought she would be on this coming Friday, Sept. 12,2008....as per her blog entry.

As per her post today, On We Go, Rosie will not be taking nor answering any questions throughout the entire month of August.

One can only speculate as to why. Many are reading a lot of non sense into this proclamation. There are rumors of trouble between Rosie and Kelli. Personally, I think that's ALL it is .... just rumors. My God, they have been together over 10 years.

I think Parker's recent skateboard accident, which resulted in a broken wrist, has put Rosie into Mommy mode. She writes of how she felt at the hospital and how all the memories and emotions came flooding back to her. I'm sure it was a bit overwhelming.

Perhaps she just needs some time away from the blog AND the computer. She must get at least (I'm guessing by the number I have been at times) 5,000 questions per day on her blog. I can't even begin to fathom what that must be like for her. She does the best she can do with answering the questions and yet, there are those who get pissed when she doesn't acknowledge them with a 'Hi' or 'Hello'.

Ms. O'Donnell told People magazine:

“It gets to a point where it’s too much. It’s too draining,” she says. “There’s too much incoming of other people’s opinions and I’m like, ‘Okay, you know what? I’m gonna stop.’ ”

Feedback on the blog has also affected her ability to lock in future projects, including a talk show or variety show she has hinted may find its way to television. “Career-wise, something will be rumored or leaked and then I’ll have 5,000 questions: “Is this true?’ So I’m gonna stop for a while.”

In the last year, since she left "The View," traffic on her site - which once approached 650,000 visitors a month - has fallen more than 85 percent to under 100,000.... according to the Web measurement company compete.com.

We all need a break from time to time. There's nothing wrong with admitting it. Sure, we will miss Rosie and her blog...but, hey.. she's still around. She knows how much her fans love and admire her. So....let's all wish her a month of wonderful family time, lots of boat rides, fresh air and sunshine. I think we could ALL use this time to get re-acquainted with our loved ones.

For those who don't already know, I am a HUGE fan of Rosie O'Donnell and have been for many years. She is my stranger / friend. Of course, the friendship is all in my head. I like to think that she reads all my comments I submit to her blog in the Q&A section. However, she gets so many, it's likely that I get 'flushed' on a regular basis.

On May 27th (last comment - bottom of page!) .... Rosie not only saw me ... she answered me! And, I got more than a one word answer. People tell me she put it last so that her readers would see it and say....hmmm, wonder what that's all about? Or, who is this sissorwizard person. Sounds just like something Rosie would do. Whatever the case may be...I'm grateful. It was more than just a brief connection....it was validation.

California's Supreme Court today struck down the state's statutory ban on same-sex marriage, finding the state's constitution "properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples."

In a 4-3 ruling, the majority — with a 121-page opinion authored by Chief Justice Ronald George, joined by associate justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno — found the fact that California law assigns a different name for the official family relationship of same-sex couples compared with the name for the official family relationship of opposite-sex couples "raises constitutional concerns not only under the state constitutional right to marry, but also under the state constitutional equal protection clause."

Considered one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders, the Hoover Dam is truly awe-inspiring. Standing 726.4 feet high, it is one of the tallest concrete dams ever built and created one of the largest man made lakes in the U.S. The design phase involved several consulting firms and some 200 engineers and other workers in the Bureau of Reclamation's design office. Construction of the dam, power plant, and related works began in 1931 and finished in 1936, two years ahead of schedule. At its peak, the project employed 5,218 workers. A 1-hour Hard Hat tour goes behind the scenes, where visitors can see the inner workings of the dam. It really has to been seen 'in real life' to appreciate the marvel of this structure. Images were taken in March 2008 while visiting Las Vegas.

Footnote: Construction workers' hard hats were invented and first used in building the Hoover Dam. There are 4,360,000 cubic yards of concrete in the dam, powerplant, and appurtenant works; enough to pave a 16-foot-wide highway from San Francisco to New York City. The reservoir can store enough water to cover the state of Pennsylvania to a depth of one foot.

OK, so this was completely unexpected. San Meridith, of A Life With A View, awarded me this for my creativity with scissors. Although she expressed it much more eloquently by saying that I wield the stylist's scissors, taming bad hair, one head at a time. I am envious of her writing style. She paints with words as beautifully as she does with a brush. San passed the award on to ten women whom she described as friends with the requisite inner/outer beauty and wizards of transformation.

Please Note: I haven't been lazy about updating my blog ... I've been very sick with the flu and then pneumonia since returning from Las Vegas. I started getting sick at the airport in Atlanta on the way back. By the time I returned home, I was having chills, ached all over and had a temperature of 104. After much rest and medication, I feel somewhat normal again. Still need to regain my strength but I am much better.

This is my first attempt at writing about our trip to Las Vegas. There will be more to come once I am feeling a LOT better.

I've lost a dear friend. My heart is very sad. I was his chair side assistant for 17 years. He often told me that I was like his 'right hand'. We had a great working relationship. He could read me like a book and I could anticipate his next move without even thinking about it. I suppose that's what happens when you work side by side for so many years with the same person. It broke my heart when he retired...but not to the extent that it is broken by this news. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife...Kay and their daughter...Danita.

The world has lost a tremendously generous and talented man. He was an incredible artist. He taught my son to paint. I have several of Dr. Dan's paintings that I will forever cherish. I don't have any more words to express my sadness. So.......................Rest In Peace Dan.

Rosie.com is undergoing another change. Her site will be down until tomorrow. Apparently, she didn't like the 'feel' of the latest design..among other issues with it. Her fans seemed to have some issues with it as well. There were always questions about where to look for something in the 'Ask Ro' section of the blog. It didn't have the familiar feel that her old blog style had.
For a few minutes today, there were some test questions and a glimpse of the new layout. It did seem a little easier to navigate but I saw some things that will most assuredly cause the questions to fly again. I've always heard..."If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it." That might good advice in this case.

Las Vegas - For A Week

Leaving today for a week in Las Vegas. My son's birthday is Monday and he wanted to go on a little adventure. He's never been to Las Vegas so I thought this would be a nice birthday present for him. I have been once - about 25 years ago. I'm sure much has changed over the years.

They say what happens in Las Vegas - stays in Las Vegas. That may be the case with some people but I plan to take lots of photographs and share them with you when we return.

I will be unplugged for a while. Yes, he will take his laptop but, I don't see me spending my time blogging from Vegas. There's so much to see and do while there. See you when I return.

When Madonna throws a party....all the stars shine. And so it was with her New York bash for her Raising Malawi Foundation, United Nations children’s organization UNICEF and to celebrate the opening of a new Gucci store.

A host a A-list stars attended...including her long time pal, Rosie O'Donnell. "It's a very worthy cause, and Madonna is a very good friend. We're supportive of each other's life endeavors. It's something that means a lot to her and to me," said Rosie O'Donnell, who added that Madonna called and invited her. "We're friends and friends call each other."

No...She wasn't wearing Gucci. "I believe it's an Eileen Fisher. I don't believe Gucci makes a size 18," said O'Donnell. "I don't shop there. It's very expensive."

Celebrities paid $2,500 to $10,000 each to dine on grappa-cured salmon, wild striped bass, tart of goat cheese, foraged mushrooms, truffled mashed potatoes and sticky toffee pudding with creme fraiche. Madonna played videos of Malawi and introduced children from the southern African country. Rihanna, Timbaland and Alicia Keys played music afterward.

Organizers stated that all proceeds from the event would be collected by the Gucci Foundation, a registered charity, and split among Raising Malawi, an advocacy group that operates under The Kabbalah Centre International, and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, which supports the United Nations Children's Fund.

The star-studded event raised $5.5 million to help poor and sick children around the world.

Lunar Eclipse

You can believe in all sorts of full-moon folklore, from the advent of werewolves, lunatics running amok, an increase in suicide, more bank robberies than usual, or a corruption of the tides.

But, if you want to see the full moon glowing in a dramatic range of colors, anything from bright orange to blood red, dark brown or dark gray, then look to the sky starting at 8:43 p.m tonight.

The lunar eclipse will last for three hours and 26 minutes. The full moon will be in Total Eclipse for 50 minutes....beginning at 10:01 pm and exists Total Eclipse at 10:51 p.m. This will be the last visible eclipse of the moon in North America until 2010...according to NASA.

Dark eclipses are usually the result of volcanic dust in the atmosphere. There hasn't been any recent volcanic activity so, scientists believe this lunar eclipse will be a vivid red or orange in the 'total' phase.

Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is completely safe to watch with the naked eye. No protective filters are necessary. Neither is a telescope. If you have binoculars, you will be able to get an enhanced view. Either way, it should be a spectacular sight.

Whatever makes you happy, whatever brings you joy. That is my wish for all of you on this day set aside for love.

I'm not one to celebrate Hallmark holidays. I believe, if a person really cares for you, they don't have to wait 364
days between each time they let you know.

So many people feel they just have to be showered with gifts on this 'special day'. Whether it be chocolates, roses, stuffed teddy bears bearing the words 'I Love You', or cards with poems written by other people.

Then, there's the obligatory candlelight dinner for two. Heaven forbid someone should forget to make the reservations.

Me? I'd rather someone just call me and say...hey, I was thinking about you. So...whatever your plans are for today....enjoy them. But, don't forget to let your loved ones know how much you care for them.....every day.

I've received jewelry, lots of cards, many dozens of elaborate vases filled with roses, tons of heart shaped boxes of candy, red teddy bears, white teddy bears, pink teddy bears...even 'talking' teddy bears over the years. However, the best gift I have ever received was a 3" by 3" square of block of wood. There was a heart drawn on it with a red crayon and underneath, scribble with a green crayon were the words...I Love You Mom. It was from my son....when he was in the third grade.

Remembering My Mom 4/18/32 - 02/09/01

My Mom was diagnosed with end stage renal disease in 1997. As the only 'girl' it fell upon me to be her sole caregiver. A task that takes its toll on a person but at the same time allows you to have the necessary time to mend whatever needs to be mended.

I remember so clearly, as if it were only yesterday, what happened to me one morning. My Mom had decided that she wanted to drive herself to dialysis while she still had the ability to drive. So, against my better judgment, I agreed to let her try to do as she wished. One particular morning, she let me sleep in and went on to dialysis. She left around 6am, as usual, and I awoke around 7:30. I remember waking up to a very still and quiet house and as I lay there in bed I thought, "This is what it will feel like if Momma were to die" and I started to cry. I cried all morning and when she returned home, I was sitting on the porch waiting for her. She wanted to know what was wrong and why my eyes were swollen and red. I made up some lame excuse about not feeling very well, but she didn't buy it. She knew me all too well. She looked at me in a Mother's knowing way and asked. "Were you feeling all alone and thinking that one day you will be...when it's time for me to leave you?" I started to cry again and told here she was right and that I loved her with all my heart and didn't want her to die and leave me. She reminded me that I knew what the inevitable was, that she could not go on much longer in the shape she was in. It didn't make it any easier for me to accept, but that day was a huge eye opener for me.

I was her care giver for 4 years, the last 2 of which she was very sick. I suppose I foolishly thought if I stayed by her side and cared for her, she would be OK. Sometimes I get to thinking about it and I find myself wondering 'what if'. What if I had called 911 just 2 minutes earlier on that last Sunday when she was taken to ICU. What if I had stayed with her the following Friday morning instead of coming home to get some rest after spending the last night of her life with her...sitting in a chair by her bedside in the hospital and listening to her moan with uneasiness.

Her Doctors have all told me that I did everything humanly possible for her. About 2 weeks after she passed, one of my brothers said to me, "She's gone....get over it." My youngest brother never has said very much at all...one way or the other. I know they have lost their Mother and miss her too, but it hasn't drastically changed
their lives. They just know she's no longer where she used to be.

In the first few months after she died, the difference for me was that I felt like I had to keep moving just to keep breathing. I didn't want to go anywhere, but I didn't want to stay at home either. I didn't want to stay awake but I couldn't sleep. I still have trouble sleeping, I haven't slept though the night in years. During her illness, I would get up several times during the night to check on her. After she died...I found myself doing the same thing. I got really scared when I awoke one morning....and was in her bed....with no knowledge of how I got there. I don't do that anymore....I switched bedrooms.

I pray for peace of mind, but my heart it still breaking. I might as well be Cody's age again (my grandson)....because it's NOT alright. I miss my Mom. It's like the amputee that feels phantom pains where the missing part used to be---my brain (my heart) keeps sending out impulses, waiting for a response, but no response will ever come. One of my clients told me that I seemed to be handling her death and my grief very well. I told him that I was not handling it well at all. If I let my grief spill out no one would be comfortable with what they would see.

You've heard the song, Shout, Shout...Let It All Out. Well, sometimes that's what I do. Then there are times, like when I'm in the shower....that I cry. It's a safe place where no one can hear me and the water can wash away my tears. Other times, like when I pass by the dialysis center or the hospital, I feel the pain all over again and I weep silently. I'm reminded of the night I left my Mom there, never to bring her home again. I think about my drive home from the hospital that night on February 9, 2001 and to be honest....I am not even sure how I got home.

I don't know how long it will take me to get better at coping with the loss of my Mom. I do know that she left a void that no one else can fill. I still miss her very much. I miss her on Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, her birthday...even on my birthday. She always had a way of making me feel special on my birthday....I miss that.

I don't have any regrets. Any sacrifices I made were well worth the time I got to spend with her. The thing is - I became so close to her that after she left me....I had to learn how to live again....without her. And...it hasn't been an easy thing to do.

Rosie O'Donnell doesn't know it...but she and her TV program played a huge part in helping me to cope and to heal. For one hour each day...I could laugh again. It was bittersweet though because my Mom was a Rosie fan too and we used to watch The Rosie O'Donnell Show every day. It didn't matter how sick Mom was, we never missed watching. Some day I hope to thank Rosie in person....for saving my life.

Rosie Kicks off 12th Annual Kid's Night on Broadway

Rosie O'Donnell, a13-time Emmy Award-winner, will serve as the National Ambassador for this year's Kids' Night on Broadway. Sponsored by Madame Tussaud's New York and The New York Times, Kids' Night allows young people, ages 6 - 18, the opportunity to see both Broadway and Off Broadway shows for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. It will be held February 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Ms. O'Donnell will cut the ribbon prior to the three-hour "Fan Festival," which is being held at the Madame Tussauds on West 42nd Street. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 2:45 PM today and will be followed by brief remarks by O'Donnell and a performance by Rosie's Broadway Kids.

According to newsday.com, The Madame Tussauds event, on Feb. 5, will showcase a theatrical makeup station, dance lessons and offer karaoke show tunes. Broadway actors will be on hand to sign autographs. No doubt....this is a very special opportunity for ALL kids.

Yesterday, Rosie posted the first of a new series of video blogs titled 'Famous Friend Friday' and the special guest was Sharon Gless. The video was taped by Rosie during the family's Christmas/New Year holiday in Miami, Florida. Rosie has a home on Star Island....Sharon's home is on Fisher Island. You can see the video here. 'The View Master' Rejects Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin has been dropped from "The View" for the second time.

The comedienne was due to appear on the daytime talk show on Tuesday January 30, 2008, to coincide with the final night of her sold-out stand-up show at Madison Square Garden, but she was left fuming after being dropped at the last minute.

Griffin tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "I was supposed to be on 'The View' (today). But then I get a call from (executive producer) Bill Geddie, and he says, 'You were too mean to Barbara on your last special, so you can't come on.' Can you believe it? I've been banned before but never re-banned!"

Kathy Griffin co-hosted "The View" on several occasions following the departure of Rosie O'Donnell last year but was dropped after her long-running jokes about Barbara Walters led to speculation of a rift between the two.

So, I suppose Griffin has some new material now...thanks to Bill and Barbara. What goes around comes around.

Due to inclement weather, I had to do indoor, fast paced walking inside the mall this evening. I lost track of how many laps I completed. It's amazing to see how many people are just sitting around stuffing food in their mouths. I must have passed by the food court at least 8 times before I decided it was best to alter my route. With the aroma of freshly popped corn wafting through the air, the Chinese Express free samples of bourbon chicken and the ever popular Ice Cream of the Future (Dots), it's enough to tempt anyone. I did better than I thought I would considering all the people I had to dodge in order to keep moving at a steady pace. I must have looked like someone on a mission as I weaved in and out of meandering shoppers. Have you noticed how many stores are offering their wares at 'up to 75% off' ? You know they are still making a profit...so, why not just have 'Everyday Low Prices'? Perhaps it would be an infringement of the Wal*Mart slogan? Anyway...back on topic...I noticed several older gentlemen sitting outside of Starbucks who would look at me each time I made my round. I'm not sure if they ever realized I was just there for the walk. Looked to me as if they were thinking..."What's this lady doing?...nobody in their right mind would come to the mall to WALK."

Well, there it is. I am officially addicted to blogging.
Who knew? Take the test and see where you stand.
I never intended for it to become an addiction. Isn't
that what all addicts say? It started out as a way to
try to connect with Rosie O'Donnell. How do you tell
someone how much they mean to you in 200 or less
characters? It's impossible.
I've submitted a question a day for like....forever to
her on the Ask Ro section of her blog. She's answered
two, count them, t-w-o... of my questions. It's like
winning the lottery to get a reply from her. I'm sure
she does the best she can, but with over 3,000 entries
(I know because I was number 3,891 one day) where
does one begin? Maybe I'll post an open letter to Rosie
on my blog...with the hope that she will someday 'see me'.
I'll have to give that some thought. So much of what I
would want to say to her is personal.

Major Andrew Olmsted...Rest In Peace

He was the first casualty for 2008 in Iraq. And a small part of Maj. Andrew Olmsted likely would've chuckled at that fact. It would be droll and play into his sense of self-deprecation.

Major Andrew Olmsted, who posted a blog since May 2007, was killed in Iraq on Jan. 3, 2008. Olmsted, who had been based at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, began blogging after his unit was sent to Iraq with the mission of helping train the Iraqi Army. A sniper killed Olmsted as he was trying to talk three suspected insurgents into surrendering. He was in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad.

Olmsted was determined to make a difference in Iraq. "The sooner the Iraqi government doesn't need U.S. support to provide security for its people, the sooner we will probably be asked to leave."

He left a final post for one of his friends to place on his blog in the event of his death. Please take the time to read it and the many other entries. This is an excerpt from the post:

According to NASA, scientists believe this could be the most brilliant meteor shower in 2008 with over 100 visible meteors per hour at its peak. Best viewing times with the highest meteor rates are expected to be in the early morning of Jan. 4 over the eastern United States. For the USA: 9pm – 5am (Eastern Time) on Jan. 3 and 4, 2008. For Northern Europe: 2am – 10am (London) on Jan. 4, 2008. For Northern Asia: 11am – 7pm (Tokyo) on Jan. 4, 2008. For almost of us, this means bundling up against the cold and battling the remnants of the waning Moon.

Will the Quadrantid Meteor Shower live up to its expectations? No one knows for sure… But we'll be watching!

I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl (Penny Brown) who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time.

I no longer have any money at all but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.

She is referring to the fact that according to a survey by Parade Magazine... 44% of Americans think she is the most annoying celebrity of 2007. One of her bloggers even posted a comment about it:

Remembering Benazir Bhutto

The assassination of Benazir Bhutto, President Pervez Musharraf's most powerful opponent, has thrown Pakistan into chaos just 12 days before elections.

Bhutto died after gunfire and a suicide bomb attack targeted her at a campaign rally outside the Pakistani capital on Thursday, December 27, 2007. As news of her death spread, angry supporters poured onto streets in several cities, burning tires and vehicles. The violence killed at least nine people and plunged efforts to restore democracy to the nuclear-armed U.S. ally into turmoil.

Bhutto gave a political speech Thursday in Rawalpindi to thousands of supporters in her campaign for the Jan. 8 parliamentary elections. She was shot in the neck and chest as she stood in the sunroof of her vehicle to greet supporters while leaving the rally. A suicide bomber then blew himself up, killing 20 other people, witnesses said.

"Ms. Bhutto came back from a very comfortable life abroad. She came back to fight these forces of extremism," said a tearful and distraught Farah Ispahani, part of Bhutto's political team. "She came back for this country. She was a real daughter of the soil of Pakistan."

"I hope she's remembered as the greatest daughter this country has ever produced and the first woman prime minister ever elected in the Muslim world," Ispahani said through tears.

For Christmas, I received the Nike+ sensor to help track the distance I walk / run. It's a neat little device that fits in your shoe. It connects to your iPod and you have the option of listening to music or a voice telling you how you are doing as you run. When you return home, all you have to do is download the information from your iPod to your computer. This was my first walk trying it out and I am very impressed with it.

Winter Solstice

It's the official 'first day of winter'. With temperatures in the upper 60's here in the south, it's hard to get in the holiday spirit. I lived in Virginia for 17 years before moving back home and I have to say that I truly miss the snow. We don't get much snow here. It isn't unusual to be able to wear shorts and a tee shirt on Christmas. Hopefully, this year will be different. We won't have a white Christmas but at least there is a chill in the air.
